6 Reasons to Use Digital Homeschool Curriculum

Digital homeschool curriculum can have a variety of benefits in your homeschool. Read on for six reasons you should try digital homeschool curriculum.

I don’t know about you, but I’m always looking for ways to save in our homeschool budget.  I try to use whatever thrifty resources I can, which often includes digital products. I was an old school holdout for years before I came to accept digital homeschool curriculum and books, but the practical side of me (read: frugal) won out.

6 Reasons to Use Digital Homeschool Curriculum

There are some advantages to digital homeschool curriculum that I’ve come to appreciate in the past few years. Here are just a few:

It’s available instantly when you need it.

Ever have one of those moments when your kids finish up a chapter or a lesson earlier than you thought? Or maybe you didn’t get to plan things out as well as you hoped. Or you’re taking a delight-directed, child-led approach and they are curious about a subject right now and you want instant access to some great material, not Wikipedia. Digital homeschool curriculum is ideal for those times!

It doesn’t take up room on your bookshelf.

Do your bookshelves look like this?

Yeah, so do mine. Only even more books. And no weird head statue thing. Or records. Okay, maybe my shelves look more like this:

Only with more Dr. Seuss. Whatever.

Anyway, digital curriculum is easily stored on your computer or a thumb drive without weighing down your shelves.

It’s easily portable.

For times when you’re traveling, waiting in a dentist’s office, or even moving to a new house, digital curriculum can go anywhere easily. You don’t have to pack it and you’re not likely to lose it. We like to read on our Kindle.

You can print what you choose when you choose.

You don’t have to wear out your printer if you don’t want to — just print what you need as you need it. You can also have it printed and bound simply and fairly inexpensively at Staples or Office Max. Need a printer? Read this first: How to Choose the Best Printer for Your Homeschool

It can be used for more than one student, multiple times.

This depends on the copyright permissions of the material, so be sure to read the fine print carefully. Many workbook-type resources allow you to print a copy for each student using it within your own family. Of course digital books can be read by anyone in the family.

It is generally less expensive than print materials.

Which brings me back to being frugal and on a limited budget, right? Who doesn’t want to save money when possible, especially when you’re not sacrificing on the quality of the information you’re getting?

In this digital age, it only makes sense to use digital homeschool curriculum whenever you can. It will never replace “real books” in my heart, but I’ve learned that these advantages are definitely worth it to us in our homeschool.

Do you use digital homeschool curriculum? Why or why not?

Get some great digital homeschool curriculum in the Homeschool Resource Collection right now!

I share this resource with you every year. Why? Because I believe in it. I use it in my homeschool. I contribute to it. I enjoy it!

So, let’s do a complete breakdown of the Homeschool Collection! I’ll share what I love about it, how I’m using it, how I store digital resources, and a total cost breakdown.

What is The Homeschool Collection?

  • The Homeschool Collection is a bundle of high-quality digital resources that happens every year. Each year the products are new and it only gets better. It averages close to $1000+ and is usually sold for about 97% off retail.

POV: But I won’t use it all.

    • Even if you only use a handful of resources, this is a crazy good deal.
    • In fact, Gena Mayo’s music product from Music in our Homeschool can be used by a wide range of ages/grades and is worth $40 alone.
    • Save them! If you store these digital resources on your device, they can be used for years to come!

POV: But it’s just printables, not a full curriculum.

    • There are a few “curricula” options included. However, this is a great resource for breaking up those mundane school days, taking a break and still having educational stuff, or a deep dive into a topic!

Why do I love The Homeschool Collection?

    • I love the convenience of digital resources.
    • My kids love pulling out printables to do and I love that they’re educational!
    • Budget-friendly, yet provides a variety of resources.

How do I store my resources?

This is a limited time offer. You will need to download these offers from the original resource and place them on your personal device. I like to use Google Drive and save in folders by subject and grade, but sometimes I just use a folder on my own device too!

    1. I do a little of both. But I think that as my children are getting older, life is getting busier and I’m not the smartest cookie in the jar and don’t want them held back by my limitations, digital sounds good. Any good programs you can recommend?

      1. If you’re looking for online learning, I recommend Khan Academy or Time4Learning. Khan Academy is free and it’s a great place to start. Time4Learning has a monthly subscription fee.

I also recommend the classes on Currclick.
