The New Astronomy Book {Moms of Master Books review}
Astronomy is one of our favorite things to study in our homeschool, so we were very glad to have the opportunity to review The New Astronomy Book by Danny R. Faulkner from Master Books. It is part of the Wonders of Creation series.
This is a beautiful hardcover book with glossy pages, full of colorful photos and illustrations. As soon as it arrived, the whole family wanted to go through the pages just looking at the pictures! It really is a visually inviting book.
There are 15 chapters in the book plus an introduction and a conclusion with glossary. Some of the chapters include: the night sky, the moon, the sun, our solar system, telescopes, the Milky Way, and more.
Multi-level format
The New Astronomy Book has a three-level format for different age ranges. Level 1 is the most basic information for the youngest readers. These areas are denoted in the book in white text boxes. There is a Level 2 purple background text box for readers at the middle level and Level 3 blue gridded background for the most advanced readers who can further delve into the concepts and do even more research.
This book is an excellent companion to an astronomy unit study or as a reference when completing a lapbook on the subject. My girls are 5, 7, and 12, and they each enjoyed looking at the book. My oldest read it on her own completely and I read the Level 1 text to my youngest two.
There are Bible verses included throughout for memorization and correlation to the topic of creation-based astronomy.
Another great feature of this book is the 24-inch full color pull out poster included. It shows all the planet in our solar system along with some of their bigger distinctive moons. We have now put this up on the wall in our school room.
I’m glad to have The New Astronomy Book as part of our homeschool library!
Master Books has a Facebook party on the last Tuesday of every month at 8 pm EST. They offer giveaways and answer questions about their books. Put it on your calendar and plan to attend if you can!
