My Top 10 Favorite Christmas movies
It’s the season for “a few of my favorite things,” so I thought I would share my current Top 10 Favorite Christmas movies (in no particular order). Admittedly, I’m a classic movie fan so most of these are black and white, but they have great plots, great acting, and can safely be viewed by the whole family.
A Christmas Carol — the original black and white from 1938.
Christmas in Connecticut — this still cracks me up and I’ve seen it 100 times. I’m talking about the original black and white 1940s version with Barbary Stanwyck. It’s just a fun movie!
Holiday Affair — a really different kind of movie for Robert Mitchum with a sweet love story. Black and white from the late 1940s.
Miracle on 34th Street — the original black and white version. I remember seeing this for the first time when I was pretty young, maybe about 8 or 10, and the ending almost made me believe in Santa all over again.
Remember the Night — I just “discovered” this one 3 years ago and it has become a favorite. Another Barbara Stanwyck movie.
It’s a Wonderful Life — How could I make a list of Christmas movies without this one? Frank Capra’s original with Jimmy Stewart.
Little Drummer Boy — I do like Rankin Bass Christmas classics, but this one is especially my favorite.
All Mine to Give — Saw this for the first time when Baby Girl was just a few months old around Christmas 2009. I cried like a total goof. It’s based on a true story.
3 Godfathers — I didn’t know a John Wayne movie could make me cry, but this one did.
Penny Serenade — Though not strictly a Christmas movie, one of the most poignant parts of the movie takes place during a children’s Christmas pageant. I saw this movie when I was about 12 and I have watched it almost every year ever since. It is a tear jerker!
Okay, I would also include The Bells of St. Mary’s and The Shop Around the Corner as a bonus to my list. I just love Christmas movies!

Great list. My favorite Christmas movie is the original Miracle on 34th street. Generally I don’t like when they remake movies but I have to say, I even like the remake on this one!
