The Wonder of Creation by Louie Giglio {review}
The Wonder of Creation: 100 More Devotions about God and Science by Louie Giglio is a devotional for kids ages 6-10 that explores God’s great creation through scientific facts and principles.
The idea behind this devotional is based on Psalm 104:24.
The Wonder of Creation is the latest book in the series of science-based, faith-building devotionals, following Indescribable and How Great is Our God. They don’t have to be read in any particular order, but they all have similar themes and format.
This hardcover devotional contains beautiful illustrations by Nicola Anderson and glossy pages that draw children into the bite-sized science-themed devotions.
More about The Wonder of Creation
There are 100 devotions in The Wonder of Creation. They include prayers, fun activities, and cool photos and illustrations that kids will love.
There is a section in each devotion called Explore the Wonder, which delves into amazing scientific facts covering the following topics:
- Animals, from honeyguide birds to flying snakes to white rhinos
- Space, from black holes to volcanic moons to gamma-ray bursts
- People, from optical illusions to brain freezes to our immune systems
- Earth, from rainbow rivers to blue lava to flowing glaciers
The recommended age range for this book is 6-10 years old. However, you could read this to younger children and children up to 12 may enjoy reading it themselves. I’ve used it with my daughters as a springboard for more science and Bible discussions, too, even though they’re just beyond the recommended age range.
This devotional encourages a child’s natural curiosity about the world around them. It starts with a scientific fact or principle, links it to a Bible verse, and ends with a prayer. I think it’s a great way to encourage kids to ask questions and find the answers in the Bible while strengthening their faith as well as science knowledge.
The Wonder of Creation is an excellent companion to any homeschool science curriculum or just as a daily devotional or bedtime reading. We have included ours in our morning basket so we can read them together. It would make a great gift, too!
You can find The Wonder of Creation and the other devotionals in the series by Louie Giglio on Amazon or at your favorite book retailer. It’s available in hardcover and Kindle editions.
