The Romans Road (100 Verses Week 3 & 4)
We completed the first four verses, dubbed the Fantastic Four, and are moving on to the Romans Road verses. Romans is one of my favorite books of the Bible and I have several scriptures memorized already. I’m so glad to have a dedicated plan for sharing these with the girls now! Big Sis is the only one old enough to really get it at this point, but I know that just immersing the girls in scripture from an early age will make a difference in the long run.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
I used this story illustration to help the girls remember the significance of these verses:
Imagine there are two people who want to jump from the East Coast of the United States across the Atlantic Ocean to land in Europe. (I showed them this distance on the globe.)
One person takes a running jump from the beach and lands 5 feet away in the ocean.
The next person is a really, really good jumper and they land way past the first jumper at 10 feet away in the ocean.
(I let the girls jump around to see how far they can jump. I set a target for them to reach across the room and they each tried repeatedly to make it, though it was too far away.)
Then I said, “Neither one of the jumpers landed at their goal in Europe, did they? Did it matter that the second jumper made it farther or was better than the first jumper? That distance is just too far to make it.”
I explained that this is what trying to get to heaven by being “good” or depending on our own merit is like. We all fall short of that goal. Jesus came to make a bridge for us so that we can get across that ocean safely. It is only because of His gift to us that we can make it!
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
I used these verses to tell them again that all we need to do to be saved and not lost in a sea of sin is to call upon Jesus and believe that He is our risen Savior. Big Sis already knows this and has accepted Jesus as her Savior. Of all my precious moments as a mom, hearing her say this on her own and knowing that she believes it in her heart is among the most precious of all.

“Immersing” them in Scripture- I love the sound of that. Your illustration is very clear, too. Thanks for linking up with Scripture & A Snapshot.
Thank you! I’m so glad you’re hosting Scripture & a Snapshot.
