The Mineral Book {Moms of Master Books review}

Answers in Genesis

I had a conversation with Big Sis (13) recently about birthstones. We wondered how the twelve gems were chosen and why. Since it was just before bedtime when the discussion started, I told her we’d look up the answer the next day. Would you believe that the very next day we received The Mineral Book by Dr. David McQueen in the mail to review for Moms of Master Books? In this book is a section about birthstones, complete with pictures of all twelve and the history behind them. True story! I love it when these kinds of things happen as though we can hear the Lord say, “I see you. I’m paying attention to the details.”

The Mineral Book {Wonders of Creation} review

The Mineral Book is from the Wonders of Creation series. {We previously reviewed The Astronomy Book.} Of course these are written from a Creation Science perspective. I really like the way the Bible verses and the scientific facts are interwoven to show the truth and beauty of God’s creation.

This book includes:

  • Biblical references to minerals
  • Facts about the properties of minerals
  • Where minerals are found and mined
  • Mineral identification
  • Terms/vocabulary words
  • Full-color, beautiful photos on every page
  • 24-inch full color poster featuring Minerals Around the World

This book is written in the color-coded multi-level style of the rest of the series. This means that children of multiple ages and abilities can read and enjoy the book. This was very true with my girls, who are 13, 7, and 5.

I can’t say enough about the terrific photos in this book. My daughters were just thrilled with the details and seeing the minerals and gems up close. It was a neat introduction to these facts for my younger daughters and jumping off place for my oldest daughter into deeper study. She’s now working on a lapbook about mineralogy because this book piqued her interest in the topic.

You can watch the book trailer below to get an idea of some of the facts and beautiful images from the book:

If you plan to study mineralogy, want to be a weekend “rock hound,” or just get a better appreciation for God’s creation, I recommend this book!
