Litfuse Book Review Blog Tour: Sister Dear by Laura McNeill
When I realized how long it’s been since I read a fiction book just for pure enjoyment, I was sad. I mean, I love books. Always have, always will. I used to make regular trips to the library just to come home loaded down with all the latest Christian fiction and classics to read just for the sake of reading. Then somehow along the way I started reading non-fiction only — homeschooling, faith, blogging/business, and things like that. That’s well and good and I still read a ton, but nothing just because. Know what I mean?
To remedy that situation I just finished reading Sister Dear by Laura McNeill as part of the Litfuse blog tour.
I picked quite a book to jump back into fiction. Sister Dear is a suspenseful page-turner full of twists.
I don’t usually read suspense, but when I read about Sister Dear I was intrigued by the plot description. The use of different viewpoints, both past and present, added to the twists. The author leaves “clues” throughout the story so I had pieced together the mystery by the end. The real suspense is in seeing how it will all unravel.
As far as Christian elements are concerned, the faith issues are not blatant. However, the idea that we are all sinners held captive by things like jealousy and revenge from which we need redemption is quite clear. It gives the book a dark and foreboding feeling as you might expect in this genre.
If you enjoy a well-paced, character-driven suspense novel, you will appreciate Sister Dear.
