Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family
I believe parenting is a calling. From a young age, I knew I wanted to be a mom one day. Not just because I liked kids (I did a lot of babysitting in my teen years), but because I felt it was an important part of God’s plan for my life. Even though I had other plans for a career in writing, I felt that being a mom would be an integral part of my identity.
That doesn’t mean that parenting is always easy. I’ve been stretched and had to grow as a person in so many ways since becoming a mom. It’s been a great experience, but I also realized that the way you think things will be and the way they actually are don’t always line up. Even with the best of intentions and tons of prayer, we all make mistakes.
Thankfully, there is grace. For us and for our kids.
We all need reminders of that grace. We also need to center our parenting squarely on Biblical principles so that we aren’t trying to operate out of our own strength, but rather the sufficiency of grace and the love of God. Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family by Paul David Tripp is a great guide to keep us on track in grace-based parenting.
About the Book
In the midst of folding laundry, coordinating carpool schedules, and breaking up fights, many parents get lost. Feeling pressure to do everything “right” and raise up “good” children, it’s easy to lose sight of our ultimate purpose as parents in the quest for practical tips and guaranteed formulas.
In this life-giving book, Paul Tripp offers parents much more than a to-do list. Instead, he presents us with a big-picture view of God’s plan for us as parents. Outlining fourteen foundational principles centered on the gospel, he shows that we need more than the latest parenting strategy or list of techniques. Rather, we need the rescuing grace of God—grace that has the power to shape how we view everything we do as parents.
Freed from the burden of trying to manufacture life-change in our children’s hearts, we can embrace a grand perspective of parenting overflowing with vision, purpose, and joy.
