Purposeful homeschooling is an extension of purposeful parenting, which is an idea that many homeschooling parents believe. But what does it look like in your daily life? How can you set your children on a path of living purposefully and guiding them in their God-given gifts? Masterpiece Discovery from World Changers Initiative aims to give parents the tools to put these beliefs into action.
What is Masterpiece Discovery?
Masterpiece Discovery from World Changers Initiative is a curriculum designed to combine purposeful discipleship to develop and nurture your child’s soul with creative expression to encourage their God-given interests.
In short, it was created to help your children discover their gifts and pursue their purpose with your guidance and encouragement. It is the why behind individualized instruction and lifelong learning. It’s a foundation upon which all other academic learning and character development can be layered.
Masterpiece Discovery simplifies purposeful discipleship for parents with creative activities, stories, discussion guides, practical application ideas, and Bible verses. It’s all part of the process of drawing out your children and helping them to express their dreams, creativity, and curiosity as they find their place in God’s design.

Masterpiece Discovery from World Changers Initiative
There are 8 units within the Masterpiece Discovery curriculum, each with a monthly theme. It’s flexible so it can fit into your own schedule, rather than being an overwhelming extra to add to your plate.
Each unit uses the same format and layout so that you can easily follow along without any extra prep time. The suggested schedule breaks each unit into 5 sessions in this way:
- Use the included Conversation Cards to initiate the topic with your child
- Allow your child to choose an activity from the included list for that theme
- Read and discuss the first story included (Bible story)
- Read and discuss the second story included (Kid Hero story)
- Discuss and complete journal notes with your child to summarize the theme
Other than art supplies, everything you need to complete the units is included.
The Bible stories and verses are interwoven throughout the curriculum in a natural connection to the unit theme. Children will also learn about historical and modern day Kid Heroes to inspire them, such as Anne Frank.
This curriculum builds character, connection, and relationships. In other words, the heart, soul, and mind of your child. The discussions you will have as you go through the lessons with your children will be priceless.
Most of the educational process is the learning of skills and information. While that’s important there’s another important aspect of education— a child’s soul— developed primarily from within through dreams, inspiration and imagination and their call to purpose.

What are the themes for the 8 units in Masterpiece Discovery? These are the keys to purposeful discipleship as you guide your children through the curriculum.

How We Use Masterpiece Discovery
After scanning through the materials, I decided that Masterpiece Discovery would be a great addition to our morning basket time together. Morning time means a fresh start, brimming with new ideas and things to talk about in our homeschool, so it goes along well with that atmosphere.
To begin, I read through the unit myself and made sure we had the art supplies we needed for the lesson. There really is little prep time required, but I like to be prepared so I wanted to read the unit first myself. This also helps me to begin thinking about the theme and coming up with any other discussion or activity ideas to go along with it, especially if I can link it to our current topics of study to make those kind of connections.
I also think this curriculum would go very well with read-aloud time. Families could read the stories together and even match the themes to their current literature studies, which would expand the lessons even further.
Masterpiece Discovery can be done at your own pace. I don’t think it’s something that should be rushed. These are deep thoughts that need some time to “percolate” and take root. Even though they’re complex concepts, they are written at an age-appropriate level for children ages 6-12. It’s a resource that can be used by the whole family, each taking from it what applies to their maturity level.
I think it’s important to allow time and space for conversations that might arise organically from these themes. We might focus on a lesson one day, yet not complete our discussion. After a few days, a child might have additional questions they might ask on that topic and the conversation can continue. Or a parent might think of additional examples to illustrate that theme that come from everyday life. The conversations aren’t meant to be forced, just allowed to flow naturally.
I was glad to see that Masterpiece Discovery also touches on positive thinking because I believe that a growth mindset is so important. It includes affirmations and blessings in addition to the Conversation Cards.
It covers the topic of “Thought Bullies” which are negative thoughts that children can have after disappointments or mistakes. Masterpiece Discovery gently reminds children that those Thought Bullies are from the enemy — the accuser and divider — not from the God who loves us. This reinforces the idea that it’s okay to try and fail, but we don’t give up or become defeated.
These themes are a catalyst to the internal motivation to become a lifelong learner and live a life of meaning and purpose. What better aspirations can we have for our children than those?
Changing the World through Purposeful Parenting
I originally went into the field of Social Work because I wanted to make a difference. I wanted to help children escape the effects of broken homes, broken systems, and a lack of opportunities for positive choices. It’s a herculean task considering the fact that the systems themselves are imperfect at best.
Through those experiences, I saw firsthand what it was like when children didn’t have a sense of purpose and value. It was heartbreaking to say the least. Although this was before my daughters were born, it ignited in me the idea that I would be sure that my own children one day would not suffer from that lack of purpose and validation. It convinced me that purposeful parenting — and by extension purposeful homeschooling — is the key to change the world.
We all have the power to do this for our children as we homeschool. We can show our children the why of learning beyond memorizing facts and taking tests. We can show them there’s a meaning behind it all and nurture them into positive, productive adults with purpose. This is a great gift we can give them that will ripple into future generations.
I’m so excited to find the Masterpiece Discovery program because it aligns with my own purposeful homeschooling vision. I think it’s an affordable and excellent investment for families.
