Lavender Peppermint Homemade Lotion Bars

Homemade lotion bars are a nice way to treat yourself or a friend or family for special occasions like Mother’s Day or birthdays. These heart-shaped lavender peppermint homemade lotion bars are easy to make, require only 5 ingredients, and are healthy for your skin. Give them a try!

I love making my own skin care stuff whenever possible because I have sensitive skin. I like to use all-natural ingredients so I know exactly what is going into the recipe. With three daughters, we go through a lot of lotion around here. These DIY Lavender Peppermint Lotion Bars are so nice and smooth! They’re one of my favorites, just like the Lavender Vanilla body butter. It really is an inexpensive and simple way to give myself a special treat. The lavender is relaxing and the peppermint can ease aching hands and feet.

You can even use it as a homeschool lesson with all the measuring, mixing, and the chemistry involved. It may spark a new hobby or entrepreneurial idea for your kids.

What you will need:

Spoon and knife

Silicone tray molds (recipe makes about a dozen of the standard size pieces)

15 drops pure lavender essential oil

12 drops pure peppermint essential oil

2 tbsp. shea butter

4 tbsp. beeswax (the pastilles are easiest, but if you have the brick type, just chop up prior to starting.)

3 tbsp. coconut oil

Jar or little bags for storage

Directions:

Fill your bottom half of boiler pot about 2/3 full of water and start on the heat, about medium high. Once it starts to boil, turn down to low for rest of the time.

Add your beeswax into the top pot and put on the heat. You should stir this a few times in the melting process, to break up the clumps and keep it from burning.

Chop up your shea butter and once the beeswax has started to melt some, you can add it in with it to melt as well.

Go ahead and have your molds all ready to be filled, so you won’t run the risk of over-heating your wax mixture.

Once the shea butter and wax are melted well, with no lumps, go ahead and add in the coconut oil and the essential oils and mix well.

Now, you may fill up the molds. Just pour slowly, leaving just a little space at the top. Let the molds sit on the counter at room temperature for an hour or two and let them cool. Then flip them over, slowly releasing the bars from the molds onto the counter and let them cool a little while longer on the reverse side before placing in jars or bags.

To use:

Just rub a lotion bar on hand, elbows, or feet. Do not store in a hot place or they will melt down.

These make a great gift or just keep them for yourself!

P.S. You can use different essential oils if you prefer a different scent.
