Our Favorite Christmas Books for All Ages
We love to read all year long, but there’s just something extra special about getting cozy with a good book during the month of December. The days leading up to Christmas are full of excited anticipation, so it’s nice to quiet little ones who have difficulty getting to sleep with a good Christmas story. It’s also nice to cuddle up with a favorite homemade quilt, a cup of hot chocolate (or hot tea in my case), and watch the snow fall outside the window while getting lost in a good book. It certainly makes me wish we had a fireplace! =0) The Christmas tree lights are so cheerful and just beg for the tradition of storytelling. I have gathered a list of our favorite Christmas books for all ages, from picture books to family read-alouds. There are some that are FREE for the Kindle, so be sure to scroll all the way through the list. I hope you’ll enjoy them as much as we do!
Family Read-Alouds for Christmas ~ Free for Kindle!
These four are FREE for the Kindle (or the Kindle app on your PC or tablet). They are some of our favorites, year after year.
Picture Books for Christmas
We reviewed this sweet book a few years ago and it has remained a favorite. Talks about the true meaning of Christmas.
The perfect introduction to different musical sounds, this sound-chip storybook follows Mole, Badger, and all their friends as they practice for a Christmas concert.
Nice board book for babies and toddlers. Colorful, durable, short stories.
Tells the traditional Nutcracker story and plays five of the songs from the ballet.
The Lift-the-Flap books are another favorite.
My girls like the colorful illustrations in this one, along with the fact it plays sounds and the Twelve Days of Christmas song.
Activity Books for Christmas
There are over 100 irresistible opportunities for festive doodling in this pack. And you can wipe the cards clean and doodle over and over again. Nice activity for long car rides!
We love the 1001 Things to Spot series and this Christmas one is especially fun. It’s a nice activity to do at bedtime when we’re trying to wind down for the day.
This book’s simple step-by-step instructions and beautifully illustrated pull-out sheets make it easy to create stunning decorations.
My girls love counting down the days till Christmas and they look forward to each day with this coloring Advent calendar.
Art and math combine together in this coloring pattern book. Combine geometric concepts like tessellation while coloring fun Christmas patterns! 60% off this weekend!
Non-fiction for Christmas
I got this book from the local library a few years ago after reading Ace Collins’ other Christmas book (see below) and really enjoyed it. It is great to share with the whole family.
Another one from Ace Collins. Some of these stories about Christmas songs brought tears to my eyes. I like reading about the stories behind them. It just adds depth to some of my favorite songs.
I reviewed this book in 2009 and have enjoyed reading it every year at this time.
Okay, I don’t actually have Ann Voskamp’s new book about Advent and the Jesse Tree, but I’ve read the reviews and would love to add this to my Christmas reading list.

You gotta read The Best Christmas Pageant Ever! :0)
Wow, I forgot about that one! It was checked out at the library so we haven’t read it this year. That is a very good one. Thanks for reminding me!
