Elephango Online Learning: 10 Advantages for Your Homeschool
Elephango is an online learning platform with homeschool lesson plans that are ideal for supplementing your current curriculum or adding delight-directed learning opportunities into your homeschooling.
We’ve recently had the chance to try out Elephango in our family and I want to share our experience because I think it’s a great learning companion resource for homeschoolers.
We all choose homeschooling for different reasons. Many families (like us) choose homeschooling because of the opportunity for personalized learning, flexible schedules, and the ability to tailor education to a child’s unique needs and interests. However, homeschooling can be challenging without the right resources and tools. That’s where Elephango comes into play.
What is Elephango Online Learning?
As I mentioned, Elephango is an online educational platform designed to support homeschooling families in their educational journey.
I’m a firm believer in personalized education filled with opportunities for growth, exploration, and discovery. Elephango serves as an invaluable tool in this educational adventure, offering a vast selection of courses, interactive content, and the flexibility homeschooling families need to thrive.
We’ve been trying out Elephango supplemental lessons with two of my daughters. Honestly, there is so much there that it could keep us busy for a very long time! There is something for everyone and just about every interest. You can cover the major subjects, like math and language arts, but there are also things like life skills, civics, literature, and more.
Elephango is designed to cater to a wide range of ages, making it a versatile resource for homeschooling families. The platform offers educational content and courses that span from early elementary school to high school levels. This means it can be used by children of various ages, typically ranging from kindergarten up to high school. There are even topics for adults and parents.
The specific age groups and grade levels for which Elephango provides content may vary depending on the subject and course, but it aims to accommodate homeschoolers at different stages of their educational journey. Parents can select courses that are most appropriate for their child’s age, grade, and individual learning needs.
I kept our choices to a pretty wide range, choosing everything from intermediate (grades 3-5) through high school. I also included all of the subjects, including parent resources and adult learning. This has given us a ton of material to choose from. You can certainly narrow that down to your own needs. It’s very customizable!
Some of the categories included are:
- Social Studies
- History
- English/Language Arts
- Reading
- Math
- Science
- Technology
- Geography
- College & Career
You can easily find what you’re looking for by sorting the lessons:
- by category
- by grade
- by learning style
- by personality style (this is a fun one!)
- by lesson type
- by content type (interactive or video)
- by the time it takes to complete a lesson
I recommend starting with the personalized learning assessment to see how each child learns best. You can even do this for yourself as the parent, which I think is a fun feature.
Lessons include a mix of things to read, videos to watch, and hands-on activities. For instance, my daughter chose a lesson called Where Do Marine Animals Live? because she loves ocean-related topics. It is listed under visual learning style, Beaver personality style, Earth Science, middle school (grades 6-8), and a Dig Deeper lesson type.
This particular lesson includes things to read and instructions to create a graphic organizer to record what you’ve learned. It also includes instructions for making an ocean ecosystems diorama for a hands-on project. It has plenty of full-color photos to illustrate the different marine animals and ocean ecosystems. There is a pdf included to download to sort animals by ecosystem.
There are follow-up questions to go over as well. The learning can be done independently and the review can be done with a parent.
Learning is gamified across Elephango by earning badges for completing different types of lessons. It’s not a requirement, but one of my daughters is especially motivated by this type of accomplishment so it works well for her.
Elephango has a Chrome browser extension that installs a kid-safe search feature for both Google and Elephango. This offers an extra layer of safety and security for kids while they’re learning online.
