7 Ways Moms Can Make Money From Home
My favorite job in the world is being a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Unfortunately, it’s not easy to make ends meet on a less-than-average single income so we’ve had to get creative with our budgeting and finances. I’ve tried many things to make money from home, including direct sales like Avon and Usborne Books, to freelance writing, blogging, and being a virtual assistant.
Many moms are trying to find ways to stay home with their children while still earning an income. Working from home can be a challenge, but the truth is it is not impossible. There are plenty of legit ways to earn money from home while enjoying your time and tending to responsibilities as a stay at home mom. Take a look below at 7 ways moms can make money from home!
1. Working as a Virtual Assistant.
10 years ago, this job didn’t even exist. A virtual assistant is more or less an assistant to a web site owner. You would do secretarial tasks from the comfort of your own home as directed by your employer. Tasks might include replying to emails, tending to social media pages, leaving blog comments, monitoring comments, and other odds and ends. Most web site owners will train you, but knowledge of Wordpress, Word, Drop Box, and basic photo editing is helpful. You can find these shops by doing a simple Google search for VA jobs, or join VA communities on Facebook. I have worked as a Virtual Assistant in the past and likely will again this year.
2. Tend a virtual shop on Etsy.
Do you love to craft? Can you knit? Sew? Design? Make printables? Craft jewelry? Take photographs? If you are talented at any of these trades, why not try opening a virtual shop on Etsy? For a low fee you can list and sell your items to people all over the world. It also gives you the control of working when you wish and setting your own shop guidelines. Head over to Etsy.com to learn more and register your own shop.
3. Sell secondhand goods on Ebay.
EBay is still a strong marketplace for people who want to make some extra cash. If you enjoy browsing thrift and second hand stores, eBay may be a great marketplace for you. Open an account at eBay.com and sell vintage items, children’s clothing, women’s clothing and accessories, DVD’s, kitchen items, and more. Sell items you want to get rid of or items you purchase thrift and can flip. I sold on eBay for a few years and had decent results.
4. Become a copy writer.
A copy writer edits the work of others and helps them polish up their manuscripts. If you have strong grammar skills and work well with others, becoming a copy writer may be ideal for you. Experience with Word is necessary, as is experience with Google Docs. You can find copy writer work in various online forums, just do a Google search for groups or look on Facebook for communities to join.
5. Provide child care services.
In most states you can provide childcare to a few children without needing to be licensed. Check the requirements in your state and see if watching a child or two in your home during the week doesn’t work for you. If you already have children they may enjoy the extra company, while you enjoy the extra income. Advertise your services amongst friends and family, as they are likely to know someone looking for help. I’ve never done childcare at home, but I have a few friends who have been really successful with this option.
6. Take online surveys.
This is a legit suggestion, but one you need to research before diving in. While there are many legit survey companies, there are plenty that just aren’t worth your time. Sign up with reputable survey sites such as Pinecone Research and take daily surveys for cash. You may even be offered free products to sample and review. Always look up survey companies you are considering on The Better Business Bureau so you can be sure you are going to be treated fairly. I have done surveys in the past. I also highly recommend Swagbucks, which helps you to earn cashback on purchases as well as Swagbucks that can earn gift cards and PayPal cash. Surveys are one easy way to earn Swagbucks. You can also earn Swagbucks just by searching the internet! I’ve been a Swagbucks member for years and have earned over $200 in Amazon gift cards. Mystery shopping is another option I’ve tried, though that requires going to different locations rather than just working from home.
7. Offer graphic design services.
Are you a pro at Photoshop and PicMonkey? Are you creative? Do you love creating for others? Graphic design may be ideal for you. Help your clients design cards, wedding invites, photo cards, business logos and more. There is a demand for this service, with many artists offering their work on sites such as Etsy and Fiverr.
