If you are unsure how to create the home office of your dreams (even on a limited budget) take a peek below at 7 tips for creating the perfect home office.
7 Tips for Creating the Perfect Home Office
In a few easy steps you can create a space that is comfortable, stylish, and helps you achieve greater productivity too. Here is what you need to know:
1. Let there be light.
Your home office should offer plenty of natural lighting. Open up those curtains and blinds and let the light in. If you don’t have windows in your home office, utilize plenty of table top lighting as opposed to fluorescent lighting. It is easier on the eyes and head, especially for those prone to migraines. A mirror on the wall can also help reflect any light that is comes in, making the space feel larger and more open.
2. See green.
Did you know that the color green can not only make your feel more creative and inspired but calm as well? Consider painting a green accent wall, or use green accents in your furniture. You can add green plants, or hang some green artwork. See if seeing green doesn’t have you feeling more productive and inspired.
3. Develop a filing system.
It is a must that you stay organized when working from home. Develop a filing system so you can keep receipts, invoices, tax information, and other important papers all in one place. File papers as soon as you are done with them. Otherwise they may pile up and you will become quickly overwhelmed. Use labels, file folders, and a cabinet system of your choice to get the job done.
4. Use a vision board.
Keep a bulletin board to display your vision for your job. Put up pictures and quotes that inspire you, note upcoming projects, keep important contacts on it, and anything else that can help you be more successful. The vision board should be a reflection of you and your business and what you wish to achieve. {Read more about how to make a vision board in this post.}
5. Have your own charging station.
Keeping your computer, cell phone, and tablets charged is important when running a business. Have your own charging station complete with all the necessary cords and just for use in your office. This will help you stay charged and more productive during the day. No more dead devices or time wasted looking for a charger.
6. Create a small rest area.
An area with a chair, rug, some books, a coffee maker, and other calming items is perfect for finding a moment of retreat. If you leave the room and go through the rest of the house to find this break, you may get sidetracked and lose out on precious work time. Instead, create this small nook right in your office so you can stay on track while still getting the break you need.
7. Make it resource rich.
Your home office should have a book shelf full of all the resources you may need. This includes office supplies such as paper, pens, pencils, paper clips, and tape. These items will come in handy daily. It also includes literary resources, professional texts, journals, and other reference items. The rule is if there is something you might need, it is in the office. One of the best ways to waste work time and energy is by looking for items. Make sure your home office is full of every single resource that would make your job easier and better.
