5 Practical Tips to Find Daily Time with God

Answers in Genesis

Need to find daily time with God in your busy life? Sometimes you need to get a little creative to make space for what matters most in your daily life. Read on for 5 ideas to help grow your faith and connect with the Creator daily.

In today’s world we need time with God even more then ever. Ironically we also have an even harder time doing that in our busy lives. Everyone tells you to find time with God by waking up early each morning. For those of us that find ourselves up late or already getting up long before the crack of dawn with our kids, that is just not a possibility for us. We need rest. In fact God knows that we need our rest. After all, He created us that way. If waking up early will not work for you, then you may have to get a bit creative to find time to spend with the Lord. Here are 5 practical tips to find daily time with God.

Choose a quick daily devotional

There are lots of great daily devotionals that you can enjoy in just a few moments a day. Pick one that fits your personal journey with God. You won’t regret putting the Lord first and getting this time in His word. I’ve been using daily devotionals for years and I can do this in as short as 10 minutes per day.

Pray often

We do not have to take much time out of our lives to speak to God. The best way to build a personal relationship with God is to talk to Him. Praise Him, thank Him, and confide in Him throughout the day. He is always listening to what you have to say even when it does not feel like it. You can talk to God while doing laundry, dishes, and other housework. I take every opportunity to do that and it makes the work go faster and changes my whole attitude.

Make time with God a family affair

Read stories of the Bible to your children. Teach them verses you want them to remember. Not only are you getting time with the Lord but you are showing your kids how to grow in their own relationship with the Lord. It will do your heart good to grow in the Lord alongside your children. I read the Jesus Storybook Bible with my girls and they love the illustrations.

Keep a small Bible and a gel highlighter handy

Purse size Bibles can go anywhere and give you time to read the word while you are out living life. A great way to use any time you find yourself bored or waiting somewhere. I have several translations of the Bible on my Kindle, along with some daily devotionals, so it’s very portable. There apps for smart phones, too. You can get the ESV Bible for free for the Kindle! I’m currently reading this daily devotional, which is free for the Kindle as well.

Give Bible journaling a try

Mom's Quiet Time Journal

Bible journaling is growing in popularity because it is a great way to dive into the Bible and decompress through coloring which is proven to be its own form of meditation and relaxation. If you find yourself doodling this may be just the thing for you. You can read my review of the ESV Journaling Bible here.

I created this Mom’s Quiet Time Journal as a way to help you memorize Scripture, too. It’s a 150-page softcover journal available on Amazon. It includes:

  • Writing prompts
  • Blank lined pages for your thoughts
  • Space to record current reading lists
  • Coloring pages with and without Bible verses
  • Mind maps

All of these ideas can help you make time with the Lord a part of your daily routine. It also sets a good example for your children, which is so important for passing our faith on to the next generation.

  1. Great tips. With 10 kids at home, I rarely find time to read my bible, and I feel awful about it. Your suggestion to find a short devotional reminded me about the Oswald chambers I have. Thank you!

    1. Wow, with 10 kids I can see why finding quiet time with your Bible is difficult! 🙂 I’ve read the Morning and Evening devotionals by Oswald Chambers and I think those would be a great choice! Short in length, but deep in meaning. I’m glad my post jogged your memory on that. 😉 Thanks so much for stopping by!

  2. I been backsliding for almost two months now, and trying to get back to God. I’ll definitely be reading devotional and getting that coloring book too! God bless you. Hope you are staying strong in the Lord!
