Teaching Kids about Biblical Truth with Owlegories
Interactive and multisensory Bible lessons are an important part of our days. I’ve tried many resources in my search for Bible lessons that work well for my kids, especially for my daughter with special needs. I’ve found a few things that work really well, but a particular favorite right now is Owlegories.
Disclaimer: I received a free copy of the Volume 3 DVD for the purpose of review. All opinions are mine and I was not required to give a positive review. For more information, please read my disclosure policy.
I had already purchased Volumes 1 and 2 for my daughters when the opportunity to review Volume 3 came along. I knew it was something we definitely wanted to see. We have enjoyed the colorful animations, cute owl characters, and clever storylines that introduce Bible verses and truth in a relatable way for kids. I don’t believe everything should be sugar-coated and dressed up as fun in life, but I do appreciate having resources that weave Biblical truth into enjoyable stories that stick with my kids. Owlegories does that.
My girls like the characters of Violet and Nora best because they are the girls in the show. All of the other characters are boys. The Devil is represented by Devlin, a devious owl who always tries to spoil their plans and interfere with their lessons. This has sparked some discussions with my daughters (6 and 8) about the enemy’s spiritual attacks and keeping our focus on the truth of God’s word.
My 8-year-old on the autism spectrum has had an amazing response to Owlegories. She absolutely loves it — and the lessons have really impacted her faith. Just by watching Owlegories, she memorized the nine fruits of the spirit. It’s not just rote memorization either. She can talk about the steps to salvation and relate to what it means from the lessons she learned in Owlegories. The bite-sized Bible lessons from real people like Angie Smith and Jen Wilkin at the end of each episode are just the right length and style for her to absorb.
We signed up for the Owlegories email newsletter on their site and downloaded the free coloring pages. My daughters thought it was really great to color their favorite characters from Owlegories.
