Learning about Ireland {Unit Study Resources}

Learning about Ireland in your homeschool is a great way to include history, geography, culture, and hands-on crafts while enjoying great books. You’ll find the Ireland unit study resources that you need right here!

Our family heritage is Irish, so I want my daughters to know where our ancestors came from and to take pride in those family stories. One way to do this is to learn about Ireland itself as part of our geography studies in our homeschool.

Learning about Ireland

We’re using Amanda Bennett’s Expedition Ireland Download N Go unit study as our starting point. It has a week’s worth of lessons plus lapbook components. Since my girls enjoy lapbooking, this is a perfect project for us. One of the things I like about it is you can pick and choose which elements you want to cover or skip if your time is limited. Everything is planned out for us so there is little prep time involved. Very handy! The lessons are flexible for different age ranges and you can really stretch it out to take longer than a week if you’d like.

I’ve never had much desire to travel the world. I’m too much of an introvert to enjoy the idea of going to lots of different places crowded with lots of people. I need my down time at home. However, I would definitely make an exception in order to see Ireland. It’s on my bucket list. I don’t know that it will ever happen, but I’d love to go to that place that feels like home away from home in my heart.

My girls and I have inherited the penchant for story-telling that runs rich in Irish history. It would be fun to kiss the Blarney Stone, though I’m not convinced it imparts eloquence. I did think it was very interesting to learn that it actually has Biblical connections amongst its lore.

I’d also love to see Trinity College and the Book of Kells. It has such a rich Christian history, which reminds us of the real reason to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
