10 Reasons to Love Lapbooking
Big Sis loved the idea of making her own mini-books and artwork to go along with it. She colored, cut, folded, and pasted her way through penguin facts, reading comprehension questions, maps, and more to complete the project. We were both very pleased with the end results. She learned so much more than if we had simply done the read-aloud and left it at that. We were able to follow the rabbit trails of her interest and she had the feeling of accomplishment with the lapbook. She still remembers most of those facts today simply because she took a very active role in learning while doing the lapbook. From that first try, I was convinced that lapbooks are a great learning tool. We have completed lapbooks on literature, math, science, history, geography, Bible, and everything in between. With lapbooking, the only limit is your imagination!
10 Reasons to Love Lapbooking
- All ages can be included in the process.
- Basic skills like cutting and pasting can be practiced for the little ones.
- Deeper study on a subject or book of particular interest (great delight-directed or literature-rich activity)
- Allows for artistic creativity.
- Makes the lesson more memorable.
- Nice keepsake for the future.
- Hands-on activity for easily distracted learners.
- Visual aid for visual learners.
- Can be incorporated into all methods of teaching and learning styles.
- Excellent project to include in review portfolios if that is a requirement in your state.
If you enjoy unit studies and a literature-rich approach to learning as we do, you will most likely enjoy lapbooking as a supplement. All of these are great reasons to love lapbooking for the creative learning value it adds to your homeschooling.

I can’t wait to hear more about your phonics lapbooks.
Love lapbooks! Probably more than my kiddos do! LOL It’s lots of fun to combine little, cute books with information and pictures with fun books and interesting videos to make a great lapbook study! Homeschool Share is awesome! Stopping by from the Crew Hop!
Thanks for your kind comment today while visiting my blog. I wanted so badly for my daughter to love lapbooking, but she didn’t at all. We still have a lot of lapbooks around the house and she just reads the text and answers the questions. In the Hands of a Child is one or our favorites.
Blessings
Diane
